At its core, The Drifter is a utility blanket that converts into a poncho in seconds. Unzip the centre zip, throw it over your head, and you’re wearing it. Waxed canvas is water-repellent by nature — and the best part is you can keep it that way. Re-wax it over its lifetime to refresh water resistance and extend the life of the fabric (especially if it’s been used hard or washed). The 10cm internal “gutter” around the edge helps protect the liner side from mud, dirt and runoff — a small detail that makes a big difference when it’s on the ground.

Waxing canvas is a natural way or protecting the fabric and whoever is under it. The wax finish causes water to bead off instead of soaking into the fibres. Waxed canvas is easy to take care of. The ensure the longevity of the canvas we recommend you re-wax it at least every 12 months. This keeps the product water-resistant, mould resistant and it also binds the fibres together.

This item works for me just as intended... well mostly.
There are are couple of design features that I would really love in this product.
1. I bought the hood that comes with it. I would love it to be lined the same as the poncho. For us guys that are follicly challenged, yes, you feel the cold in the hood when it rains ;-).
2. While not really a design fault, I wish that the fasteners for the arms were the other way around. That is, when you use them, you have to turn the button around, I would prefer the front and back of the poncho to be flat at the fastener.
Other than that, it's great product. This is some gear for me that should last a long time.

Drifter Poncho Is The Mickey Mouse

I've had a really good experience so far with my drifter poncho.
It is a brilliant design being water proof but not only that it is durable and multi functional as one minute its a poncho and the next its a picnic mat or shelter/wind breaker or an actual blanket i could use it as a bag if i wanted to heck i could use it as a hammock if i really wanted to i could use to carry wood or drag an animal i just hunted or cover anything i didnt want wet, I could carry my baby in it or change his/her nappie on it if i wanted to i could use it to sleep on and to top it off my dog loves it too the pount she sleeps on it every night.
I rate it 11/10 and highly recommend it as it is quality material quality made by quality people and AUSTRALIAN made.
I cannot fault it one bit so i will definitely be purchasing more products made by jack stillman & co.

4 stars as the idea of a blanket poncho and material is great, very warm a little heavy but that I can build up to. Sits back and I find it like comes up around the neck a bit so adjusting a bit, maybe after more wear it will sit better over the shoulders.

I have wanted something like this for a long time and I'm pleased to say the Poncho/Groundsheet has met and even exceeded my expectations although I haven't had a chance to do a full evaluation as we are currently in a heat wave in the UK the hottest year since records began apparently so I haven't used the poncho yet.
In the winter I envisage using this over a wool poncho for extra warmth.
Really like the jungle green colour, it should work well in the natural environment.

I pre-ordered this to be shipped in Britain. I was expecting a fair delay, then got an email to say it had shipped and it arrived the next day.
Britain is in the middle of some abnormally warm dry weather so not a huge opportunity to try out it's wet weather potential yet but I'm sure that will happen at some point.
My family have just been camping at a farm and due to the dry weather we were not able to make use of our tent log burner so I used my Drofter as an additional layer over my lightweight sleeping bag to keep warm at night and it worked really well at this.
During the day we had several opportunities to make use of the Drifter as a picnic blanket. My 3 dogs have really enjoyed the comfort of not having to lay on the floor.
There were a couple of evenings when the temperature dropped and I used my Drifter as a blanket and when I got up early with my dogs I wrapped it around my lower half while sitting in a camping chair.
I have contacted JS HQ already and made a couple of recommendations. 1stly that an additional tie-out point in the middle of the short side is added to allow for attachment to a ridgeline rather than running the ridgeline under the Drifter.
2ndly I have recommended a D ring on the bottom of the bag to allow for the bag to have a cordage sling attached to allow the Drifter to be carried without the requirement of a bag or taking up a hand.
