Waxing canvas is a natural way or protecting the fabric and whoever is under it. The wax finish causes water to bead off instead of soaking into the fibres. The advantage is that this method of proofing the fabric also allows it to breathe, unlike the plastic treatment options found in waterproof fabrics. Want to know more? Read this article.
Yes. This product is covered with our lifetime guarantee. That means we are super confident that our manufacturing process is so tight won't see a popped seam or a shonky zipper anytime soon. Waxed canvas is easy to take care of. The ensure the longevity of the canvas we recommend you re-wax it at least every 12 months. This keeps the product water-resistant, mould resistant and it also binds the fibres together.

- We ship using Australia Post from Perth Western Australia. That means items shipped to the Eastern States of Australia can take between 6-14 business days. If you are not sure, please chat with us.

I bought the Newport Drawstring Sack as an intro to the Jack Stillman range. As an experiment, i packed all of my tarp, hammock, emergency blanket, cook kit, canteen, saw, knife, kindle and food to see if could be used as an overnight camp bag. Answer is yes it could! Solid and very rugged. Used as back pack, needed a carabiner to join the rope straps across chest.

This bag is a very useful little bag to stuff things in to take with you.
Even though it seems small, it actually can hold quite a bit in it.
Still made of hard wearing canvas on the outside, and is nicely waxed and water resistant. However inside it has a beautifuly stitched inside soft lining.
For the price, this is a great canvas to stuff anything in and take with you.

I have really enjoyed using this bag for the past month. I took it on a trip for two weeks as my everyday bag to cart around my wallet, sunglasses, phone and keys. Perfect side for small items but flexible enough for beach gear and a side trip to grab a few things from the supermarket for dinner.
Solid, well made and immediately useful. The quality of the materials is first class and I love the slightly extravagant orange lining!

Canvas are great, pary of the strap broke down after 2 weeks so its very messy. If the strap is a different material, it d be a great bag. Happy to send a pic to your office.

The best gym bag, big enough for my spin shoes, towel, water bottle, phone wallet and car keys... I added a ring to the rope to clip my car keys on. The only addition to improve it would be a zippered section for wallet and phone so you dont have to rummage through the bottom of the bag....

I saw this rucksack in an ad on Facebook when I was having a “I’m completely sick of technology in the modern world” moment and bought it on a whim.
My expectations were astronomical… this simple waxed canvas bag with it’s rustic natural fibre rope cord and no unnecessary bells and whistles like pockets represented an escape from the glowing screens and digital madness… could it actually be the radically simple relic from the old world that triggered my reckless purchase, where quality mattered, the feel of natural materials like leather, canvas and plant fibre rope created a tactile experience every time you picked it up or hoisted it onto your shoulder…
Did it live up to these lofty expectations? Yes it did. I love it. It feels like a brand new antique that I can’t quite believe that I bought brand new in 2025.

I love this, having bought it to replace an old nylon beachbag of similar design that was rotting due to UV. If possible, it'd be great to swap out the tape-wrapped cord ends for a crimped brass end.

I received the rucksack as a prize for a raffle as we are raising money for cancer research we are doing the shitbox rally next May and would of loved you to sponsor our car in the rally and get your name out there in the outback as where we will be travelling
My son has a drifter poncho which he uses out west as he is in the gas industry and the farmers all ask where he got it as not many have heard of your product

This is the second wax canvass rucksack I have purchased from Jack Stillman. My daughter travels overseas for her work and I felt having purchased and used mine it would be ideal for her to take away with her. As I said in my review after purchasing mine, I recalled the words of my father all those years ago. He said son, always spend your pound (dollar) once and buy the best you can afford. That way your purchase should a lifetime if looked after. For me that says it all. An old bushman also gave me advice along the lines " always buy the right item for the job at hand, be it a fishing rod or camping item" again those words sum up the Jack Stillman rucksack.

The rucksack is almost luxurious. It’s strong, eye catching, and extremely easy to operate.

I’ve had Newport for a couple of years now, it’s been my go to bag for a run around the shops, to take to the pool or on a walk it’s been my regular grab and go bag. More recently my wife was heading out for a walk up one of our local mountains looking for a bag to take with her for her drink bottle and other items, I told her to grab my Newport and go. Let’s say from that point on I had without my knowledge entered into a shared custody arrangements which was only able to be resolved by the purchase of a second and much welcomed Newport thankfully in a different colour.
