Big Pockets on Demand

Part waist apron, part tool belt, Le Jardinier is a practical companion for gardening, workshop jobs and everyday projects. Designed in collaboration with Dick and Angel Strawbridge of Escape to the Chateau, it brings purposeful construction and rustic French character together. At 46cm wide and 41cm high, it’s compact enough to stay out of the way while keeping the things you need close at hand.

Tools Within Easy Reach

Two generously sized front pockets keep garden tools, utensils and everyday essentials close without filling your hands or trouser pockets. Long fabric waist ties provide an adjustable fit, while the open-top pocket design makes grabbing and returning tools straightforward. Whether you’re tending the vegetable garden, preparing something in the kitchen or working on a project in the shed, Le Jardinier keeps your essentials organised and ready.

Waxed Canvas, Reinforced Pockets

Made from 8oz waxed cotton canvas, Le Jardinier offers a lightweight, water-repellent barrier against the splashes and spills of everyday work. Both front pockets feature rivet-reinforced corners to strengthen areas that take repeated strain, with nylon ribbon edging along the pocket openings to help resist wear. Simple fabric waist ties complete a practical design that reflects Jack Stillman’s approach to honest materials and considered construction.

“If you’ve watched Escape to The Chateau you’ll know we love our tool belt waist aprons. We use them everywhere from the garden to the sewing room. It’s such as useful garment with it’s two large pockets keeping essential tools handy”

Angela Strawbridge, Escape to the Chateau

Made To Wear In

Waxed cotton canvas develops its own character through use, with creases, marks and variations in finish becoming part of the fabric’s story. When the wax coating begins to wear, it can be renewed using Jack Stillman Fabric Wax to help restore water repellency. The reinforced pocket corners and protective edging are there for a reason: this is an apron designed to be used regularly, looked after and kept in service for years.

A Little Chateau Character

Inspired by life at Château de la Motte-Husson and designed alongside Dick and Angel, Le Jardinier carries a little of the château’s practical, resourceful spirit. It’s a favourite style of Dick’s for time spent in the garden, but equally at home in the kitchen or workshop. A useful piece of the Chateau Collection that looks the part, earns its keep and gets better with a little honest wear.

Waxing canvas is a natural way or protecting the fabric and whoever is under it. The wax finish causes water to bead off instead of soaking into the fibres. The advantage is that this method of proofing the fabric also allows it to breathe, unlike the plastic treatment options found in waterproof fabrics. Want to know more? Read this article.
